All Hobby Boards devices connect to the 1-Wire network either through RJ45s or
through screw terminals. Most devices offer both options, exceptions to this will be
clearly noted in the product description.
To connect devices using the RJ45s, you can simply use standard network cables. These
RJ45 connectors act as a pass-through, so you can daisy-chain your devices. Many
devices require supplemental power. If you use the RJ45 connectors, please see our
discussion of the
Power Injector
for more information about supplemental power on a 1-Wire network.
Alternatively, devices can be connected to the 1-Wire network using the screw terminal
connectors. The function of each screw terminal is clearly marked on the board next to
the connector. The 1-Wire data line must be connected to the terminal marked “DQ”.
The 1-Wire ground line must be connected to the terminal marked “gnd”. If
supplemental power is connected, the positive wire must be connected to the terminal
marked for power, and the negative wire must be connected to the terminal marked
“gnd”.
Please refer to our instructions on how to
wire the cable connectors
for more information
on the wiring of the connectors themselves.
