Humidity / Temperature / Solar

Our Humidity / Temperature / Solar devices are a unique series of devices that take advantage of a versatile board design allowing any combination of humidity, temperature and/or solar sensors to run on a single device. For those running multiple sensors, the combined device offers significant savings compared to the alternative of purchasing multiple separate devices.

Uses for this device are too numerous to list them all. Temperature information can be used by home automation systems to turn on heat, air conditioning, or fans. Humidity information can be used to control bathroom exhaust fans, or dehumidifiers. Solar sensors can be used as the trigger for adjusting indoor light levels, or to determine sun exposure in various areas of a garden to assure optimal selection of plants. Of course, many users simply like to report temperature, humidity and solar radiation as a part of a total weather monitoring system.

Connecting your Humidity / Temperature / Solar Device is very simple. Firstly, connect the device to your 1-Wire network via one of the RJ45 connectors, using a standard network cable. The second RJ45 connector acts as a pass-through, allowing you to daisy- chain other 1-Wire devices. Alternatively, you can connect this device to your network by connecting the data wire to the screw terminal marked DQ, and the ground wire to the screw terminal marked GND. For more information, please see our general discussion of Connecting Devices to the 1-Wire Network. If you are using the screw terminals and your device is in a case, please also see our discussion of the case for this device.

This device does not require external power, but for optimal performance we recommend adding 9-24 volts unregulated external power. This can be provided directly via the Cat-5 cable using our Power Injector, 6 Channel Hub, or 6 Channel Master Hub.

NOTE that if you choose not to provide external power, you must remove the jumper behind the RJ45 connectors. If you purchased the device in a case you will need to open the case to remove the jumper. Removing the jumper will allow the device to draw power directly from the 1-Wire network, which may be sufficient if your 1-Wire network is relatively short with few devices.

Once connected, you can mount the device in the location to be monitored. If you have a board that includes the solar sensor, be sure to point the solar sensor towards the sky. If your device will be installed in a humid environment, you should take precautions to protect it. We recommend coating the device with a spray coating, which is available through us when you purchase an assembled device. If you coat the board yourself, use liquid electrical tape or spray varnish. Apply the coating after the connections have been made, and be sure to coat the terminals well.

Please see our links to 1-Wire software to find the right software application for your needs. As far as we know, all of the 1-Wire software currently available supports this device.
