As an alternative to the Serial or USB adaptor, you can use our Master Hub. It combines
the functionality of the Serial / USB adaptors with a six-port hub. (The six-port hub
allows you to connect six different 1-wire “sub-networks” in a star topology. See our
discussion of
network topology.
for more information on hubs.) To
connect the Master Hub, again simply plug the serial connector to the serial port on your
computer, and connect the power adapter to the Master Hub. The Master Hub uses the
same Dallas chip (DS2480B) as the Serial Adaptor, and so will be supported by any
software that supports the DS2480B or the DS9097U.
The Master Hub has six RJ45 connections. Each connection can be connected to a 1-wire
sub-network using a standard network cable. If you need to know the actual wiring of
our RJ45 connectors, please refer to our instructions on how to
wire the cable connectors.
Unlike the Serial and USB adaptors, the Master Hub requires power. It must be
connected to a mains outlet through an
AC Power Adaptor.
that provides 12-24 volts DC,
500mA, through a 2.1mm center positive connector.
Other than the Serial Adaptor functionality, the Master Hub works just like the
6 Channel Hub.
Please see the
discussion of our 6 Channel Hub
for details on jumper settings and
LED display options.
