Master Hub

The Hobby Boards Master Hub combines the functionality of the Serial / USB adaptors with a four-port hub. (The four-port hub allows you to connect six different 1-wire “sub-networks” in a star topology. See our discussion of network topology for more information on hubs.)  The Master Hub uses the same Dallas chip (DS2480B) as the Serial Adaptor, and so will be supported by any software that supports the DS2480B or the DS9097U.

6-Channel Hub

The 4 Channel Hub works just like the Master Hub, without the adapter functionality.  It allows you to connect five different 1-wire “sub-networks” in a star topology. (See our discussion of network topology for more information on hubs.)

The 4 Channel Hub has six RJ45 connections. One of the connections is a 1-Wire “in”, which should be connected to a Serial Adaptor or USB Adaptor using one of our Adaptor Cables , or your own adaptor cable. One of the connections is a 1-Wire “out”, and the four additional connections are the 4 hub channels. Each of the four channels, as well as the “out”, can be connected to a 1-wire sub-network using standard network cables. The “out” is a pass-through to the “in”, with the addition of supplemental power. It does not matter which of these connections are used for the various parts of your 1-Wire network. You will need to specify, in your software, which of these channel is used for each of your devices. (Please see your software documentation for further details on how to specify hub channels.)
